calf

An email I received from PETA recently, had the above picture in it. I looked at the image, but I could not understand what I was seeing until I read the description.

“A spiked ring was fastened to this calf’s nostrils to prevent nursing. Rings were sometimes screwed on so tightly and left on for so long that they pierced the tissue between the nostrils.”

This is what happens at Daisy Farms USA, because the calves are not allowed to nurse (the milk they are meant to drink is sold for human consumption).

Whoever thought of this idea has a sick twisted mind as far as I am concerned.

Daisy Farms, a milk supplier to Daisy Brand sour cream and cottage cheese, claim to have the “best-cared for cows on the planet.”

Daisy-Farms

This is what they say on their website:

“At Daisy Farms, we love our cows!  Our cows are our pets at Daisy Farms.  From the names we give them, to the individual attention we pay them, one thing is for sure, at Daisy Farms, our cows are more than just numbers.”

I was going to insert a video showing what happens at Daisy Farms, but I am aware that there are people who follow this blog, who would find it too disturbing to watch. Instead I will add a link to the PETA investigation.

This is so terrible. As far as I know this isn’t happening in the UK (where I am) but they might.I must find out. Not sure if I can quite stomach the video. I hope they will stop being so cruel and that the publicity will help to this end.
