Although I have promoted various petitions in the past, I have not promoted any funding requests from charitable organisations. I am making an exception today.

The Captive Animals Protection Society, which is a small charity, is being threatened with an injunction by a company that provides animals to the entertainment industry. This would severely restrict the good work that they do.

Below is a copy of the request for help:

We need your help.

Someone is trying to stop us speaking out for animals and we need to take action NOW to stop them.

We have received a legal letter from a solicitors instructed by a company which provides animals to the entertainment industry. It threatens an injunction against our charity which would severely restrict our work meaning we cannot speak out for animals who need our help.

We cannot name the company at this stage due to the ongoing legal situation but please be assured they are a company that we must stand up against or the animals they control will be shut off even further from help.

In our work for animals we stay within the law and make sure that everything we put out to the public is factual and correct. With your help we can respond with the evidence we need but the process will cost us money.

Luckily, we have found a solicitor from a well-known human rights firm who is prepared to advise and represent us on a reduced fee, but we still need to find at least £1250 urgently.

CAPS is a very small charity, especially compared to the company we are up against. What’s more, if we do not fight this and stop it in its tracks, we will have to cover their legal costs of the injunction which could result in our closure.

More crucially, if this company secures this injunction against us, we fear it will not only affect our work but could have serious repercussions for anyone trying to take action against animal exploitation in this industry.
