I think there are too many people who are puling the strings who do not want equality.

“Equality is ensuring individuals or groups of individuals are treated fairly and equally and no less favourably, specific to their needs, including areas of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation and age.”

Yes I have seen that site before, but I will have another look at it later on anyway.

Interesting thought but I beg to disagree. In the US women now have the right to vote — and all sorts of other rights we didn’t not once have. Every ethnic group in America has far more rights than they had 50 years ago or 200 years ago. The Nordic countries are considerably more equality-oriented than they once were. Things are looking up!

Since Orwell died there have been many changes for the better. In spite of the quotation being old, I chose it because in the UK we have a government (Tory) who intend to get rid of The Human Rights Act. They have already eroded human rights in various ways. When we leave the EU we will be denied the protection of their laws.

The poorest and most vulnerable people are being denied legal help because of changes to the Legal Aid system.
Thousands of sick and disabled people have died because their Benefits have been stopped. There are changes being made to “Chequebook Euthanasia”, because too many people have been successful with their Appeals. The right to an Independent Tribunal is being replaced with a system which will result in the majority of appeals failing.

Thousands of disabled people have had their mobility scooters or cars taken away from them.

A few years ago the Tories created a situation where people had to go foodbanks to survive, including people who were working. When the EU offered a very large sum of money to our government to ease the situation they turned it down. The minister in charge of the Department of Work and Pensions at the time can be seen laughing about the plight of hungry people on YouTube when being confronted by an Opposition MP.

The Investigatory Powers Bill also known as the “Snoopers Charter”, a bill that will make us less safe and less free, is going through the final stages of the parliamentary process. It always reminds me of George Orwell’s 1984 “Big Brother is watching you.” Activists are going to be placed on the same level as terrorists.

Our government has openly and actively been encouraging racism in this country. This has resulted in an increase in the number of attacks on people from other countries. They have used the media to demonise people on benefits and have paid companies large amounts of money to deprive people of money.

There are increasing comparisons being made about the UK Government and Nazis, which is not surprising because changes they have implemented are very similar to Nazi models.

So although I completely agree with what you say, I see equality as retrogressive in the UK, that is the reason I used a quote from the past. I see it as more appropriate because of the direction in which we are going.

That’s because of this — the fact that no one has ever figured out how to stop the bankers and war profiteers:
