“It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.”

The result of a nationwide referendum in Switzerland was overturned on the grounds that the information given to voters was insufficient. That sounds right to me.

The people of the UK were lied to about the EU Referendum and now we have a serial liar for a Prime Minister. There is nothing right about that whatsoever.

I just watched “The Great Hack” about the Trump campaign and
the Leave.EU campaign and their connection to Cambridge Analytica. They are all dishonourable people.

Some people give away a lot more than others, because they are unaware of the importance of maintaining a certain amount of privacy. Many others have no knowledge of preventing data leaks and lot of people just don’t care anyway.

A lot of people in the UK think that ISPs keeping a record of their browsing history under The Investigatory Powers Act “Snoopers’ Charter”, is similar to keeping phone records, when in reality there is a great deal of information about them contained in the metadata.

“The Snoopers’ Charter allows the state to hack computers, phones and tablets on an industrial scale, and collect the content of people’s digital communications. It also allows the creation and linking of huge ‘bulk personal datasets’.”

George Orwell predicted how things were going to go for us.

GCHQ tap into submarine cables for the Middle East, so your country does not escape its tentacles.

I restrict the amount of data I leak by using a VPN (CyberGhost) on my devices. I use encryption on private files and I use Tails (The Amnesic Incognito Live System) with Tor (The Onion Router) when I want to go to particular places on the Web.

There was a YouGov poll taken a few years ago with two groups of people, Group 1 were “ordinary” computer users and Group 2 were members of the BCS (British Computer Society).

The first question posed was about whether it was alright for the Government to spy on internet activity. Both groups showed a very small amount who considered it to be acceptable.

The second question asked if it would be acceptable to spy on the internet activity of UK citizens, if it was to aid the fight against terrorism and serious organised crime. The numbers in Group 1, who accepted this condition, rose to nearly 100%. The numbers in Group 2 remained the same.

Group 2 know that terrorists do not use the Web to communicate the same way as ordinary people. Spying on innocent people does not help the security forces tackle terrorists or criminals, it actually hinders them.

To achieve their aim, the Government used the psychological manipulation of “Compliance” to get the backing of the people. This is a tactic used by many governments. The Nazis used it a lot. In past years, the USA used the threat of communism to create compliancy among its citizens.

Governments announce a threat, whether real or imaginary, and if you are not compliant you are branded a traitor.
