Israel has been developing a canal that will be a competitor to the Suez Canal. It will pass through Gaza, and this appears to be a major reason why Israel wants Gaza evacuated.
It is called the Ben Gurion Canal and goes from Eilat to Gaza. When finished it will become a real issue for the Suez Canal, with revenues estimated at six billion dollars annually.
USA, UK and France are enthusiastic about this, because they will make a lot of money from it.
