The watermelon represents the Palestinians’ public expression, of the struggle against the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
The watermelon became a Palestinian symbol after the Six-Day War in 1967, when Israel took control of the West Bank and Gaza, and annexed East Jerusalem.
The Israeli government made displaying the Palestinian flag a criminal offence. To get around this, Palestinians started using the watermelon, because it has the same colours as the Palestinian flag, red, black, white and green.
My reason for inserting the watermelon post recently, was in response to the TV programme Big Brother, censoring a contestant’s T-shirt because it displayed a watermelon over the map of Palestine/Israel.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism said they find the symbol of the watermelon “offensive”. Know what I find offensive? I find committing mass murder against men, women and children offensive.
It is interesting that my post showing a picture of a slice of watermelon and a smiley, had more views and likes than my posts referring the inhumane murderous cruelty inflicted on the Palestinians.
