Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
MFA can help avoid nearly all account takeovers.
Using MFA to keep your online accounts secure, as the name implies, is better than 2FA. Upgrading your security to MFA is highly recommended, because the crooks who want to access to your accounts keep increasing their methods of attack, you should increase your security.
Using an Authenticator app like Authy, Yubico, or Google Authenticator will increase the security of your accounts. Receiving login codes via texts on your phone is not considered secure.
You do not have to spend money to greatly increase your level of security.
How it works 1.
When you insert your username and password online, you will then be prompted for the code that is generated in your Authenticator App on your phone. This code expires every 30 seconds. It is far more secure than receiving a text.
Alternatively
You can use a hardware Security Key. There are various types of hardware security keys available. Prices vary with different types.
The image above shows a YubiKey and a Thetis FIDO2 Security Key (Fast Identity Online).
Please note: Pass Keys are not physical keys. They are cryptographic keys used for encryption and decryption.
How it works 2.
Instead of inserting a code to authenticate who you are, you insert your key into your device. Some YubiKeys have NFC (Near Field Connection) so if you are using it with your phone, you don’t have to plug it in, just touch it on the back of your phone.
