There is a particular detachment from the plight of people who live in countries far away from me that I have experienced. I suppose it is partly to shield myself from the sadness of it all, and also accepting there is nothing I can do about innocent civilians being bombed.
I met a delightful young lady once who was a student in Bournemouth, but she came from Syria. After the war in Syria started I remembered the young lady and wondered if she had gone back home and was caught up in the war. I no longer had the detachment; I had an undeniable awareness of the reality of the suffering in a country far from where I lived.
People suffer and die through the actions of the rich and powerful who make gains from wars without any qualms, empathy or remorse. Similarly there are people suffering and dying in this country because of the ruthless policies of the Government.
When I saw the picture of the Yemini girl Amal Hussain, a 7 year old child who died of starvation because her country is famine stricken due to it being war ravaged, I did not feel detached. The country I live in is where the bombs come from. The UK Government is complicit in crimes against humanity by supplying arms to Saudi Arabia to use in Yemen.
There isn’t anything I can do about it apart from asking you to sign a petition requesting the UK Government to stop selling weapons to Saudi Arabia and contributing to mass killings.
Maybe signing the petition won’t help, but it will not harm either.

When I saw the picture I felt compelled to write a post about it.
I have posted petitions before that have been successful, but with this particular government I do not feel positive about anything that involves them.

The petition is gaining momentum, at the very least the Government will know we are not going to be silent about it.
After 10,000 signatures, petitions get a response from the government. After 100,000 signatures, petitions are considered for debate in Parliament.

Will signing petition help, I guess Government take petition silently…
every year I sign different petitions for welfare, but I see no results.

Petitions with 10,000 signatures get a response from the government. Petitions with 100,000
signatures are considered for debate in Parliament. At the moment there are over 170,000 signatures.
Although I do not feel very hopeful of a good result on this matter, I am pleased that a lot of people have shown how they feel by signing the petition.
Not taking any action is the equivalent of saying we do not mind what they are doing. Although you may perhaps feel despondent about petitions you have signed in the past, you can take assurance that your contributions have been worthwhile. Even if you were not hopeful of a good outcome, you contributed along with other good people who chose not to remain silent.

An all-party House of Lords committee has said that UK’s Saudi weapons sales are unlawful, but everything is being over-shadowed by BREXIT at the moment. We have a government that does not care about lives. After we leave the EU, it is the government’s intention to remove the Human Rights Act.

Most of the people in Scotland do not want to leave the EU, but as always, they are out-voted. There are talks going on about Scotland remaining in the EU in the event of independence, which is something I think is inevitable.
The EU has created legislation to prevent money laundering. London is the money laundering capital of the world.
