There was a point in my life when I was a young man, that I was desperately unhappy due to my circumstances at the time. I saw an elderly lady walking along the road, who was wearing only a flimsy summer dress and summer sandals, in the freezing winter weather. Whatever the reason for this, there was something very much wrong.

Suddenly my problems did not seem so bad, and I considered my plight to be only temporary. I have recalled this situation on occasions throughout my life when times were not so good.

When I have been in intolerable situations that seemed never ending, I have reminded myself that nothing lasts forever. Without hope, this is not possible.

When I saw the picture below recently, it stayed in my mind. I wondered how the young man can have any hope when his whole world is disintegrating before his eyes.
